The Executive Director will be New Life Furniture Bank of MA’s first full-time paid leadership position. New Life has experienced significant growth and is looking for an ED who can lead the 5 year-old organization to further success in addressing Homelessness in Massachusetts. New Life has a strong core group of volunteers, part-time employees and an active Board of Directors.  The role requires a high-energy, inspirational leader with exceptional management, organization and communication skills, and an ability to engage colleagues, partners and stakeholders at all levels to align with the organization’s vision and objectives.

 

The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Priorities for the first 18 months will focus on fund raising, analysis and recommendations for appropriate staffing levels and functions and working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to enhance recruitment and retention of volunteers


General Responsibilities:

 

Development

  • Responsible for spearheading and implementing a sustainable, $500,000  fundraising effort in support of the significant growth and established 3-year goals of the organization’s programs

  • Develop and execute a multi-year fundraising plan including the cultivation of major gifts (defined as gifts of $25,000 and more) and securing financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations

 

Leadership and Management

  • Actively engage and energize New Life staff, volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders

  • Supervise, collaborate, coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance

  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff

  • Promote maturity, professionalism and ethical practices while working as a team member

  • Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review

Community Relations

  • Responsible for the enhancement of New Life’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations

  • Guides Marketing and Communications in its overall messaging and approves all publications

  • Serves as New Life’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public

  • Increase the overall visibility of New Life to enhance volunteer participation, fundraising and donation of goods, and to further advance accessibility for clients. 

 

Operations

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of New Life, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements

  • Develop appropriate departmental policies, procedures and resources to most efficiently meet goals

  • Review and approve contracts for services

  • Direct review of IT systems technology to support operations, fund raising, client scheduling and volunteer management

  • Mission and Strategy

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization throughout the region

  • Work with Board of Directors on special projects, as requested

  • Provide support to the Board by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials

  • Oversee organization Board and committee meetings

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree

  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience desired

  • Experience working with and motivating a primarily all volunteer organization

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, Gmail and QuickBooks platforms as well as familiarity with CRM systems

  • Ability to convey a vision of New Life’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors

  • Excellent organizational management with ability to coach staff, manage and develop teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

  • Willingness to work, when necessary, evenings, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing New Life at public events
